The best work trips give you the opportunity to combine a bit of business and pleasure. My recent trip to Sydney didn't give me too many opportunities, but a fabulous weekend in Manly was grabbed with both hands.
Our perfect Manly day kicked off with breakfast at
The Pantry with several coffees and my first bowl of polenta porridge with sliced banana, candied walnuts and drizzled runny honey. The verdict? Delicious, satisfying, hearty, much smoother than my oats, but I don't think I'll be changing my breakfast staple. Groaning and clutching our full bellies we needed to walk off breakfast so off we set of the 10km loop around North Head in the Sydney Harbour National Park.
If you have three spare hours in Manly, definitely walk the
North Head loop. You start in the inner harbour, wander through the old army barracks, passed an old quarantine station, loop around the harbour heads and along the ocean cliffs which drop perilously straight down into the Tasman Sea many meters below. Amble down the very impressive Memorial Walk, drop down onto Shelly beach and meander back to your starting point along the waterfront.
After that you'll deserve a refreshing beverage or two in the afternoon sunshine, or at least we thought we did!
It's a tough life living in Manly!
